NCETM -National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics

The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) is a major initiative funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly the Department for Education) to enhance professional development for mathematics teachers, established in response to the recommendations of ACME (Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education) and those made in Professor Adrian Smith's report 'Making Mathematics Count'.

NCETM is developing a sustainable national infrastructure for encouraging and supporting the subject specific professional development for teachers of mathematics across all sectors.

NCETM has a virtual presence through its virtual web portal and an on-the ground presence through a network of regional coordinators. The NCETM network of Regional Coordinators covers all of England. Each Regional Coordinator is working to create local networks, build relationships with mathematics teachers and organizations, identify opportunities for high quality professional development and share examples of excellence across the region.

Combining the web portal and network of regional coordinators the NCETM can work with every teacher, department, school, college, learning provider, network and organization across England to actively support professional development for mathematics teaching and learning.

Features of the web portal:
