B-EQUAL - Bradford Equality Employment Project
B-Equal is the lead partner in the transnational arrangements which is an integral part of the Equal initiative with partners in Denmark, Sweden and Germany. This has led to the mutual sharing of techniques and methods, knowledge and good practice across European Union member states. The Legacy Report outlines in details the activities and findings of the transnational partnership. The main outcome was to adopt a model that allowed for:
- The parallel development of new approaches to corporate responsibility as it relates to the labour market, labour market diversity and fighting discrimination and inequality in the labour market
- The continuous exchange of information and good practices
The partnership looked at the different local, regional and national understandings and perceptions of diversity and ethnicity. The different terminology used to describe people with different ethnic background and definitions of concepts like empowerment and diversity was a starting point to analysis of the partner organisations’ potential and in integration of people with minority ethnic backgrounds. An understanding of how each country worked with diversity was felt to the essential ingredient in the success of the transnational partnership. The findings have been published in ‘cities as gateways of immigrants and ethnic minorities’ (January 2005, Bradford).
The transnational partnership allowed partners to understand and review comparative policies and practices (for examples in Human Resources).Three conferences were held. A major success of the project was the development of an innovative qualification on Diversity Management. This was primarily aimed at HR managers and recruitment and selection specialists to learn about how to embrace aspects of diversity.
