Thresholds

Partnership information

Description

The main purpose of the Thresholds DP is to develop the Thresholds Centre as a test bed for a range of employment support measures aimed at increasing employment opportunities for local people.

The Thresholds Centre is located in the Bethnal Green North ward of Tower Hamlets, an area which remains acutely disadvantaged despite its location on the very edge of one of the most prosperous financial centres in the world. The geographical targeting of this project meets the main target objective for Equal Theme A which is to test innovative ways to tackle the problems of deprivation in small geographical areas surrounded by areas of high employment.

The main purpose of the project directly meets one of the key strategic objectives of Theme A - 'to test support mechanisms to help target groups integrate into the labour market'.

The Thresholds DP aims to develop and test informal methods of engagement of the socially excluded in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, which build self-esteem and increase the likelihood of the beneficiary integrating into the labour market. We intend to clearly demonstrate what does and does not work effectively in community based employment support.
