ATLAS Scotland - Action for Training and Learning for Asylum Seekers
The DP had partners in Denmark and Finland. There were a number of helpful staff exchanges, particularly with Finland, which was operating a similar DP. These were very helpful in terms of information sharing. For example, the Toryglen orientation programme was learnt directly from Finland. The main difference with Finland is that they were working with asylum seekers in reception centres, as opposed to in the community, as in Glasgow. The best work with the Danish partners was through the British Red Cross, who worked directly with their Danish counterparts. Details of the work of the partnership can be found in the ATLAScompendium.pdf
Anniesland College assessed that the transnational partnership achieved added value through:
- The exchange of information and maximising of expertise between member states.
- A deeper understanding about the asylum seeker situation in other states.
- The identification of alternative solutions or approaches.
- The development of new tools, training methods and methodologies.
- Added value to individual member state projects – at organisational and beneficiary level - and the prevention of duplication of effort.
- The use of common results to inform future policy and practice of EU working in the area of asylum, adding value to mainstreaming policy within each member state.
- The development of products and procedures at transnational level that will be tested at national level.
- Further added value through staff exchange.
