Description
‘Awareness-raising’ workshops to highlight the problems faced by asylum seekers arriving in Scotland were delivered by staff members with input from ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) teachers and, in some cases, by asylum seeker students. Workshops were held for academic staff, support staff, catering and childcare staff and higher level and vocational students. The groups included various ages, both genders, and a range of ethnic and educational backgrounds. Core training materials comprising a mix of video, power point presentation and discussion based exercises were developed.
