Asylum seekers

Definition: Helping the integration of asylum seekers. Depending on the official status of the asylum seeker – an extremely complex area, with variations between Member States – assistance may be for new ways of helping to access the labour market, or to provide training for unsuccessful asylum seekers prior to their leaving the country

Theme I partnerships have been set up to support asylum seekers, and have encompassed innovative methods of teaching ESOL, developing ways of auditing and assessing the skills of asylum seekers, capacity building for voluntary organisations, and activities directed at helping asylum seekers to support each other.

Trafficking of Children Trafficking of human beings between poor and rich countries is a continuing feature of poverty, war, invasion and famine.

Volunteer Interpreters It is proposed to identify and train volunteer interpreters from the asylum seeker population who would, in the first instance, be based within voluntary organisations.
