Definition: Opportunities to promote potential for ethnic minorities within the world of work

Theme B partnerships are about the employment opportunities of ethnic minorities and have covered a wide range of employability, job-creation and diversity work. Partnership topics have ranged from positive action programmes and diversity help for employers to tackling barriers faced by refugee and migrant communities. Products include marketing and information websites in the creative industries, toolkits on the benefits of diversity, information about a national forum for race opportunity, a database of doctors prepared to act as mentors, policy and practice reports on employment and diversity, and diversity learning materials and qualifications.

Portfolio of Achievement (POA) schemeDevelop and pilot a POA scheme that reflects and/or evidences vocational and academic achievements, participation in culturally specific pre-release programme along with behavioural and 'distance travelled'Consultation will take place with offenders and employers to inform the portfolio development.

Positive knowledge modular course Undertake a needs analysis to identify specific needs for BME beneficiaries to design a 'positive knowledge' course.

Progression ManagementResearch the benefits of a progression management approach which includes 'positive action' to meet the needs of the target group; allowing early access to ETE opportunities for appropriately risk assessed beneficiaries.

Promoting opportunities in social care and health (POSH)The Bradford District faces an acute workforce shortage in many areas of the health and social care sector, following the national trend.

Removing barriers to learning and employment – Russell Street ProjectThe project was able to successfully disseminate, network and mainstream innovative methods of engaging disaffected communities into training, employment and empowerment into mainstream activities.

Research The DP has been engaged in a variety of research activities: The DP has been developing a number of case studies of employers and beneficiaries Undertaking action research with a major employer to investigate low retention and progression of BME staff Research on tools for measuring soft outcomes, linked to learning logs .

Restorative JusticeResearch use of restorative justice approaches including reparative mediation as a positive way of reintegrating BME ex-offenders into the local community, building family ties, re-establishing sense of social responsibility and motivating them to engage with and sustain ETE placements.

ScriptBased at Birmingham's Custard Factory, Script is a development agency for drama writers providing a mix of educational activity such as workshops and mentors to new and aspiring drama writers.

Sheffield Independent Film and Television (Shift) SHIFT (Sheffield Independent Film and Television) delivers media training using creativity to harness attention into vocationally rewarding areas.

Sheltered Employment ProgrammePositive action employment programme for BME communities.

Sikh Sanjog at Eskdalemuir Tibetan CentreThis project was based at the Buddhist Monastery in Dumfries and was about growing and maintaining fruit and vegetable gardens for sustainable living.

Slough Young Peoples Centre, CT4YP (Creative Training for Young People)This programme is run through Slough Young Peoples Centre as an out-of-hours venture.

South Asian women and barriers to employment – ANISSA UKANISSA UK is a private intermediary that undertook research between employers, disadvantaged groups and a proportion of projects supported by B-EQUAL.

Studio Programme The WAC Studio Programme seeks to provide learning opportunities, professional development and business opportunities specifically focussed on a number of project outputs such as: Label and recording  Sound engineering training Business incubation development Sound engineering traineeships .

Study into barriers to employment experienced by persons of African and African-Caribbean descent in Bradford – Action for Black Community Development (ABCD)Research was undertaken to examine employment levels both nationally and locally.

The Non Stop Foundation The NonStop Foundation in Sheffield delivers accredited training programmes, workshops, events and exhibitions.

The Royal Birmingham Society of Arts (RBSA)RBSA is an art gallery situated in a prime position in the Jewellery Quarter, with a significant cluster of exhibition, marketing, commissioning and valuing activities across the visual arts, crafts and design in Birmingham.
